Ima empath and energetic sensitive working in disability support, so i get super drained by people all day.

Been struggling with draining people, clients , coworkers, parents, managers, the public the works, insomnia for years (waking up 5 to 10 times a night) .

I tried all the visualisation shielding, petitioning spirits... but none have come close to good old container magick.

A jar, 3x iron nails, 3x cat claws, 3 thorns, black salt, pink salt, white salt, an obsidian skull, a finger nail....

And boom, best sleep of my life, woke up just to pee, and i was on a sleepover shift at work (which is usually worse sleep).

Also way chiller on public transport, less fight or flighty, thinking everyone is a potential threat.

So I wana hear about any of your successful ward recipes, and story that it works to back it.

For me, exercise and dopamine - pure science. I will train very hard for about an hour and my pulse will have rocketed. That strengthens muscles and you get an influx of dopamine into the brain, secreted to cope with exercise stresses. Combined with deep sleep it fights depression or anxiety very effectively.

Tried that route for years, the dopamine hit is great, body is exhausted but i still cant sleep. Doesnt address sensitivity, trauma, emotional fatigue. One tool doesnt fix everything.
Also i think your lost, gym forum is that way 👉

No, it doesn't by itself produce miracles. If you exercise very hard and remain anxious, the benefit of deeper sleep won't happen. If you find a way to relax to sleep well, the dopamine effect will usually benefit.
One mistake also is to exercise too much. I now do two hard sessions a week and then get on with other things. Also to save time I don't use a gym but stuff like sandbags.
Still, do whatever works. Exercise helped me to a point though I try to manage stress by other means too.

Melatonin seems to do the job just fine for me.

I also struggle with high empathy and the feeling that my energy is being drained, so I’ve tried a few different methods. I’d like to share two techniques that were particularly effective for me; I hope they work for you, too.

1. Draw the boundary line further forward.
I discovered this after experimenting with various defensive techniques; the key isn't so much the type of technique you use, but rather where you set the boundary line for it.
Highly empathetic people tend to set their defensive line a bit too close to themselves when faced with energy-draining behavior. They do this because of thoughts like, "But maybe they have their own struggles," or "Perhaps they can't survive without draining energy from others."
They set the boundary at a point where they accept the burden themselves, thinking, "They’re going through a hard time, so it’s only natural for me to shoulder some of the load."
Instead, you need to base your defense on a line where your own burden becomes zero. You must hold the mindset that you are not responsible for bearing any of the emotional burden caused by the other person, and establish your defense with that as the premise.
This isn't about being heartless; it’s about separating their circumstances from your own. The fact that they cannot cope without draining energy is their issue, not something you are responsible for.
As for specific defensive techniques, I’ve tried things like a "bubble of light," the "Protection of Hecate’s Wheel," the "Protection of the Komainu" (traditional Japanese guardian beasts), and—after learning about Western occultism—the simple LBRP. However, where you set the boundary line makes a far greater difference than which technique you use.
In short, no matter how strong a wall you build, it is meaningless if it is placed inside the very thing it is meant to protect. The wall must be built outside of what you are protecting.

2. Adopt the perspective of an observer.
This is a technique I found in a Japanese guidebook for The Kybalion (I haven't read the original text, so I’m not sure if it appears there). Instead of focusing on the emotions welling up inside you or the object of those emotions, you observe yourself experiencing those emotions. For instance, when someone says something unpleasant to you, instead of simply thinking, "This is unpleasant," try observing yourself experiencing that discomfort—thinking, "I am feeling unpleasant right now."
This allows you to shift your awareness from the "self that feels" to the "self that observes emotions from the outside." You move from being someone caught in the storm to someone watching the storm from outside the screen.

By combining these two approaches, I stopped having my energy drained altogether. At first, I became immune to having my energy sapped by such behavior, and eventually, I stopped being subjected to such energy-draining actions in the first place.

I would be truly happy if these methods help resolve the issues you are facing.

I like valerian root and nettle. Valerian root stinks so it keeps everything away from you. Bells on my door. The block button is also a wonderful protective ward depending on the situation ☠️

Have you learned grounding, centering and energetic shielding and self-cleansing techniques? Those can be very helpful. So is learning to sanctify an area/create sacred space before warding it.
Constructing a shield set on an item you wear, such as jewelry with a piece of quartz (especially the aura-treated quartzes), black tourmaline, or obsidian can also help. You must be firm that you refuse and deny those about you your personal vitality; a shield is only as sound as the determination you set it with.
My own ritual shielding techniques are specific to Medicinework, so likely would be less helpful, unfortunately.

For myself, every night I pour holy water into a dedicated mug, add some fennel, then breathe Psalm 68 into the cup. I then fold the hard copy of the Psalm that I recited from, rest it on my bedside table and place the mug on top of it. In the morning I announce that the spell is duly completed and I pour it out. On the day after the New Moon, I sweep out my house with a floor wash mix, then I take bay leaves dressed with Van Van oil (Psalm 125 breathed onto them prior) and place them under all door mats and in the windows. Old leaves are declared spent and disposed of (if I can retrieve them, some of the ones in the library window tend to get stuck in the frame and it becomes a sort of layered thing, lol). This is how I ward my space. For my person, I carry a charm bag dressed with Fiery Wall of Protection oil and some jewelry dressed with FWP or Van Van oils, prayer and charge performed upon donning these personal protections.

I use chanting and singing, which has become pretty much the core of everything I do. I have specific songs that put me into specific states of mind which I sing whenever I need to be in that state of mind. I use poetry for everything. My poems contain the intention that I have and the use of both rhythm and alliteration or rhyme. This, along with music, singing the poem a certain way, puts me into a magical trance and "casts" the "spell" that calls upon my "wards" (the terms for this is literally "varðloka" - ward-lure, or ward-lock, the songs used in traditional seiðr magic to call upon protective "warden" spirits).

I like! I've been watching Annette Høst on YouTube, powerful and primal, gets to the very roots of what Power is in the World. Freyia and Arith Härger also have some very brilliant suggestions to add to the Seidr path. Words of Power, prayers, these MUST be chanted or sung, there is no other way to truly express the dynamic power contained within the Spoken Word. Thank you for sharing your inspiring Path : )

Thank you for your kind words! I was very inspired by Annette Høst and Arith Härger. In fact, I would say those two channels, along with Dr Jackson Crawford's channel, have been the most useful youtube resources I have found for learning about traditional nordic folk magic, and seiðr in particular. Very good recommendations in my opinion. In fact, with regard to the topic of this thread, I believe Annette discusses this topic (warding and protection) in detail in one of her videos, and why warding and protection wasn't always necessary.

Come to think of it, I cannot recall the exact video but I believe Arith Härger also mentions something about this. He tells a story about how there was an Icelandic native who would perform a blót for a landvættr and establishes a repectful relationship with it, until one day a Christian monk "cleanses" it by pouring holy water over the sacred rock that was housing the landvættir. The monk does this after hearing from the native that they are doing this "heathen" ritual, believing that the vættir is some sort of unclean spirit, and the monk believes they are "protecting" the native from its deceptive influence. The vættir then visits him in a dream and describes the experience as having boiling hot water poured over it, and the relationship is broken. The vættir leaves, and the homestead starts to fall apart.

It's a really interesting story. The story is meant to illustrate that "warding" and "protection" is sometimes harmful and not actually helpful, but I don't think that's the case here. I don't think the OP is worried about that, but it's still something worth considering while we're on the topic.

I'm totally the opposite. I have very low empathy and very weak emotions, which is why I bond so well with cats. Over time, I learned that cats hyper focus on their own space and desires, which is why my cat will jump into my seat, if I get up.

Cat familiars can teach us all a thing or two about saving your empathy for yourself, family and friends
I have struggled to understand the psychology of cats. I have learned my cat isn't selfish but simply hasn't evolved the capacity to coordinate his desires and wishes with mine. If I rise to make a coffee and he then grabs my place, he doesn't associate how to think for the two of us (if I lie further to the side, you can squeeze in). Amusingly too, if I open the gate for him, he's been known to suddenly groom himself as if time has no implication.
However, cats can be very affectionate and protective.
I consider myself very solitary but the cat can be for hours by himself. He also keeps changing where he lies. However what he loves most is to lie on my chest due to the warmth and heart beat. Soon as I lie down he springs forwards and lands on me, purring and grooming himself.

I have a special place in my heart for cats and although Shadow is my familiar through a simple familiar blessing spell with moon water, rosemary incense and quartz, as a beginner I have no idea how authentic this is.
He came to me after his mother and litter mates were intentionally poisoned in the next county and like yours spent hours lying on my chest and sucking my furry dressing gown.
I have just rescued a second young black cat, Sable who due to a neglect court case and 9 months in cat prison is so nervous I think magic is the last thing she needs right now but suggestions welcome.
All cats are their own 'people' and own you rather than the other way round but I find just their presence calming and will have them until I drop off the twig!!

My cat is my soul mate although I shouldn't say "my cat" since he's very independent and can't be controlled. He was raised to run wild wild often with feral cats before he came to me. I hoped to make a pet out of him but he loves to be outdoors, except in winter when he sleeps on my bed.
Once he went missing and a strange thing happened. I was very worried and asking people if they'd seen him. It had been 24 hours and he never misses that many meals. All of a sudden, a suggestion to go to the fitting shop and call him popped into my head. I got very hopeful and darted to that location, calling his name at the door. A big meeoow came from inside. I was then totally relieved, located the shop owners and they opened the door. Out he came. It seems he had gone inside the day before and someone had locked up, not knowing the cat was still inside. I myself was feeling quite proud my psychic connection with him, or his with me, had a happy ending. However, I have been thinking about a tracking device lately since so many curious cats climb into cars, or vans, or they get into trouble.
