I don't know if we're objectively entering another dimension, but it definitely opens a doorway to a dimension of mind we can't normally access

HP Lovecraft wrote many stories about how our dreams and the outer cosmos in fact occupy the same physical space. It's fiction of course, but in his portrayels of dreams he remained largely consistent as to their nature, and he was well aware of the power of altered states of consciousness on the ability to dream and astral project, though I doubt he ever called the latter as such.
Maybe there's a nugget of truth in there somewhere.

This is a very serious topic. However, based on my humble decades-long experience, I must admit that lucid awareness in dreams is sometimes an obstacle to diving into some truly deep areas. Lucid dreaming is a great thing until we venture too deeply into realms where complete chaos and paradox prevail. Lucid awareness cannot handle that, and the dream breaks or we return to the mediocrity zone. My greatest discoveries happened when I was not lucid dreaming because I was free from the fears and limitations of lucid awareness. So, a lucid dream is an instrument, and the practical value of that instrument depends on what your goal is. What exactly do you want to achieve in the state of lucid dreaming... just saying.

The dimensional model is one interpretation, Lucid dreaming demonstrably correlates with REM sleep physiology; measurable brain states, eye movements, documented in lab conditions. That's not easily dismissed.

The more defensible position within a serious occult framework is that the dreaming state thins the veil between ordinary consciousness and subtler planes, not necessarily because you've physically relocated, but because the rational-egoic filter is suspended. Whether that opens access to genuinely external dimensions or to deeper strata of consciousness that are functionally equivalent to external dimensions is a question worth sitting with rather than collapsing prematurely.
