Why can't astrologers calculate the date of someone's death?

I don't know how the meaning was different in Lilly's day, but current Webster's dictionary shows the meaning of the word decumbiture as "confinement to a sick bed, or time of taking to one's bed from sickness". The prediction of a time of death might have been part of the astrological analyisis of that period of confinement to bed. YMMV.
I must have picked that up directly from Christian Astrology. John Frawley has almost five pages on predicting death in his book, The Horary Textbook, but doesn't mention decumbiture.

He does mention decumbiture but does not teach it as it's already implied when reading sickness charts in general.

Back in 2020, an astrologer told me that there would be a death in my family in 2024 and another one in 2027. At the time, I did not think much of it.

I only remembered his words after my mother was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2023. She passed away in 2024.

After she died, I contacted him again because I was carrying a lot of guilt. I kept thinking that maybe I had not done enough for her, or that perhaps I should have made different decisions or handled things differently.

He told me that there was nothing I could have done to change what happened. He said that if she had not died in July 2024, she would have passed away anyway sometime in November or December.

Now 2027 is getting closer, and I think I may understand what is going to happen — and who it is going to happen to.

I must emphasize that I have only a basic knowledge of astrology, but I know many people who practice astrology, both amateur and professional. Some of them are so good that they can calculate the approximate time of someone's birth even if the person seeking their advice does not know the exact time of their birth. Some of these astrologers can have extraordinary insight into the circumstances of someone's life and make relevant conclusions regarding the future fate of that person. However, none of these astrologers have been able to determine, if not the exact, then at least the approximate date of someone's death. If you, as an astrologer, are already able to calculate the exact (or approximate) date of someone's birth, then what is the problem with calculating the date of someone's death? Doctors can sometimes predict the duration of the remaining life of a person with cancer, but astrologers, who often claim that astrology is a science, cannot do that. Why?
I would say that it is probably possible to tell time of death using astrology, but that it is unwise to bother with it. Which is probably why many dont know, because that kind of knowledge is useless, or even a cognitohazard at times.

💫 The Dynamics of the End: Why Death Cannot Be Calculated 💫

The reason serious astrologers and Kabbalists do not predict the exact date of death lies in the eternal balance between free will and destiny. A birth chart or a name's numerology is a map of potentials—a spiritual seed of possibilities—not a rigid script with a pre-marked final destination.
Physical death is determined by multiple dynamic factors, including physical, biological, and karmic variables, heavily influenced by our ongoing life choices.

Windows of Transition
In traditional astrology, challenging planetary transits (like Saturn or Pluto passing through the 8th House) represent windows of vulnerability, not death sentences. The universe operates on multiple levels. A "dangerous" transit might manifest as a physical passing, but it could just as easily trigger a profound symbolic death—such as a career rebirth, a major lifestyle overhaul, or a spiritual awakening. Destiny sets the stage, but the soul chooses how to respond.

THE OCTAVES OF MANIFESTATION
Low Awareness Response

Physical illness/crisis
Severe emotional decay
Destructive endings

Conscious/Spiritual Path
Drastic health upgrades
Deep psychological birth
Karmic closure & wisdom

The Esoteric Formula
Despite this fluid reality, medieval grimoires and Hermetic occultism created methods attempting to decode longevity. The most famous is the calculation that links the gematria of a person's name to the word "death":
  • Name Value: The birth name is translated into numbers.
  • The "Death" Factor: The numerical value of the word "Death" (Met in Hebrew or Mors in Latin) is added.
  • Planetary Cycles: The total is divided by sacred numbers (7, 9, or 12) to find a remainder, which is cross-referenced with ancient tables to locate critical years of vitality.

Inclination, Never a Sentence
Even the occultists who designed these formulas maintained a core metaphysical axiom: "The stars incline, but they do not bind."
An unfavorable calculation indicates only a temporary drop in energetic resistance, making the physical body more prone to wear. To treat a formula as an absolute death sentence ignores the machinery of the universe, which rebuilds itself every second based on our thoughts, prayers, and actions. True esotericism never seeks to predict when the book closes, but rather how to write every page with purpose and light.

Gerardobraham writes this, from his previous comment above:

"Robert Zoller was famous for teaching the time of death and as a first exercise asking his students to calculate his time of death, when the calculations were finished the result was that he should have died at birth, which he indeed said it was true since he was born without part of his epithelium on the lung and that would have killed him in the Middle ages, nowadays babies are saved from dying with the iron lung."

I gave it some thought, and there is a small degree of truth involved, as far as Zoller having died at the time of his birth. It's not the way it appears, though. He passed one day before his 2020 birthday, with his birthday being on January 25. His physical body had expired (on January 24), right at as he was being "born" again on his birthday, in 2020! So he was born dead, in a sense. But I don't think that's what we're looking for here.
The universe has a sense of humor it seems.

This is AI. AI can't do spells. I've had AI wrongly read birth and horary charts.

Look, the problem is much deeper than you might think.

Why is it impossible to determine the exact date of a person's death in advance?

Let us start at the beginning. A person is born, and their life follows a certain programme. However, every decision they make that changes their current line of probabilities also changes the potential date of their death. This is very similar to the Butterfly Effect.

We will all die, but we do not know the exact date.

Now, let us consider the practical side of the question. An astrologer may attempt to predict the date of a person's death, but such a prediction could only be considered meaningful at an age when the individual is not yet capable of making conscious decisions that significantly alter their course of life. In other words, this would apply primarily to a young child.

Let us consider other possibilities. How else could the time of death be determined?

Suppose there were a way to access the informational fields of the Systems (the Matrix). In that case, it might be possible to determine the approximate age at which a person would die.

According to this model, approximately six months before death, a person begins to lose their energetic layers and the connection between the soul and the physical body. At that stage, it would supposedly become possible to estimate the date of death with greater accuracy, perhaps within a margin of a few days.

To summarise, the exact date of a person's death cannot be reliably determined far in advance because too many factors can change the course of events and, consequently, the potential outcome.

The future is not a fixed point. It is a constantly changing landscape of probabilities.

In ancient times people died young pretty frequently, so astrologers had to develop a means to protect their livelihood and explain why so many of their clients died in this way after being given an elaborate natal chart reading. It also served to save court astrologers from wasting their time reading the chart of someone who was expected to die in early childhood or infancy. To do this, they looked at the "hyleg" and the "alcocoden" of a person's chart, and then predicted the length of life from there.

Small but interesting related piece of trivia: the Placidus house system was actually derived specifically for the purposes of reverse engineering this very same length of life technique given by Porphyry, which involved calculating what are called the "primary directions" of a chart. His house system was never originally intended to replace the existing whole sign or other house divisions of his time. That was actually due to the arrival of his house system at around the same time the printing press was invented, and the first ephemeris included his tables by default, so they got popularized because of that.

Anyway, here is a wonderful youtube video on it:

I’ll tell you how I determine when a person will die.

I’m quite skilled at using bioenergy dowsing rods. However, I use them only as an indicator, like the needle on a measuring instrument, because I don’t possess clairvoyance.

It’s no secret that the Soul is connected to the body by a Silver Cord. Six types of energy constantly circulate through this cord. Six months before death, these energies begin to disappear, one by one, at a rate of one per month.

In other words, I simply determine how many energies remain and use that to estimate how many months the person has left to live.

Three months before death, it is already possible to determine the day of death with an accuracy of plus or minus two to three days.

This is an old system developed by Academician Gulyaev, but it works.

In the Eastern European System, magic is an academic science. Nobody runs around chasing grimoires and things like that. The most famous magicians there held official titles as academicians or generals.)))

Things work very differently there. And they still do. If someone is a truly powerful magician, there’s a good chance they also hold a military rank.)))

What we can predict is a span of time when that person is more vulnerable to such an extent, that they may lose their life. For example the third Saturn return for the elderly(from my experience, sometimes all the way up to their 90th birthday depending on personal transits(like Mars placemets) after which things tend to level off at a new fragile but steady baseline) Or another example is a bad chart for a planned surgery. We advise people to delay surgery or change the date, be are careful with chronic health conditions, have someone in the house if you can and just be aware and don't give an opportunity for things to start sliding down the slope. You also pray and ask for the prolongation of life. Some people either panic or create a self-fulfilling prophecy.
In the end it serves more of a warning to be taken seriously and try to do as much as you can to avoid that outcome. And that's it's purpose, not to put people in the grave on schedule. Some panic, some are too weak to fight it off, some don't have their family or support network on their side, some are struck down by fate no matter how hard they try to avoid it, and alot simply say that nothing bad happened and it's all nonsense.I don't do track my stats. But others who do are having percentages of getting it right frighteningly up to the 80% range if you consider mortal danger avoided and death itself.
