Why Do I Never Dream?

It is really bothering me now that I never dream. Regardless of how much or how little sleep I get, it appears I do not dream - OR that I have absolutely no recall of any dreams whatsoever. This has gone on for most of my life. The last time I remember regularly dreaming was back in 2004 when I was trying to give up smoking and was using nicotine patches - wild dreams. Still smoking (8 a day).
So if anyone has any ideas what I can do to get dreaming/dream recall working again I would be very pleased to hear them.

You need to get oxygen in order to get into a deep sleep where dreaming occurs. When you quit smoking, you were getting more oxygen.

Get your heart checked. You're not processing the air you need to dream.

Weak sensitivity of neurons. As you get older, there's not much that can impress you, so sleep can't show you anything. There is nothing to show because there are no vivid impressions that the brain would like to record. You need to look towards biohacking - substances that restore sensitivity to neurons or improve the formation of neural connections.

Well I am slim healthy and recently passed a full wellness check. No heart issues. I eat healthily, I walk daily, swim regularly without issues and I sleep with my windows open onto the countryside. I am not oxygen depleted in any way.

A lot of things affect that....
What helps me is right temperature at night along with proper blanket.

I had never heard of this before! I put the latter part of your final sentence into AI and basically it tells me in order to restructure itself, my brain requires psychodelics! Lsd, Ketamine, Psilocybin and DMT are the recommended substances. Repairs synaptic connections apparently. Not really a choice for me as I like to have and need my driver's licence.

From legal substances you can try mugwort, that one is told to affect dreams. I like to combine it with mint and white sage. All three grow where I live and are completely legal herbs.

Thank you Morell. I can easily get Mugwort and Mint - it grows wild here in Wales (UK). I can buy dried organic white sage. Should I infuse them into a bedtime tea?

No, it's too serious. consider lighter substances. For example, try the lion's mane mushroom, I can say that in the first days of taking it, it really makes dreams very vivid. I also had very vivid, but at the same time nightmarish dreams from P-5-P (the active form of vitamin B6). Also, 9-Me-BC gave me vivid dreams.

You don’t smoke weed by chance do you? I never dreamed when I smoked weed, but when I quit I started having them again.

No I don't. I actually thought the opposite would be true! But thanks for the information.

I just had a look in the fields very close by to see if I could find some Mugwort, but alas none there. I will have a good look around tomorrow and surely I will find some 🤞
