Windows 11... oh no...

I know there are all kind of debloating and activation scripts for W10, W11 etc. Part of me likes the idea of torturing it into submission that way, but only if I absolutely had to use it. And aren't there whispers of W12 now? I wonder if it will continue the alternating pattern of terrible release followed by ones that end up being relatively ok, only to retire it and release something awful again?

Linux is an altogether nicer and more transparent way of doing things, I really need to upgrade. My Xubuntu LTS version is so old now it's no longer getting updates, and building from github often require more up to date libraries. But it still keeps dicking along.

That is true. W12 has been spoken of, so people say. It's also funny that Microsoft owns Github and their AI scrapes the material on there.
Wine is pretty popular and decent, but does have its issues. Hilariously, World of Warcraft will run better on certain Linux distros despite Blizzard's hatred seemingly for anyone on any Linux distro. Always had a soft spot for Mint. Such a simple and lightweight little thing, especially if you're just looking to have a little office distro there to boot up. But do remember the drawback in having to wait longer for updates.

I used Mint for a while over fifteen years ago now. My impressions were favourable, and it's typically one of the distros recommended to new Linux users. I always thought of it as a bit like *buntu but without the sketchier practices of Canonical. I imagine it's matured nicely into something quite distinct.

I still favour Debian based distros over everything else, but that is familiarity as much as anything. I even played with Debian itself for a while, but it's just creating more work for yourself really. I have Termux on a few of my phones which has a lot of the feel of a simplified apt based system.

I always fancied giving Mageia a spin which has it's cute occult based theme inherited from the days of Mandrake. But I don't have much familiarity with rpm based systems.

I sometimes wonder if Micro$oft aren't quietly working their infamous "embrace, extend, extinginguish" strategy with their takeover of Github?
