What exactly is happening with the sense of being stared at?

Same with the gaydar as well. Do lesbians have one or do they generally make it more obvious and don't need it? I know Sheldrake speaks on morphic fields but I'm wondering what you lot make of this exceedingly common thing? How in the heck can you tell that someone is looking in a really busy place and automatically zero in on them with no second guessing?

Imagine if you could use that resource freely as its obviously linked to something else that is powerful.

is it common? I'm 53 and never experienced it, although I know there have been studies done and it seems to be real. I worry about studies, though. Is that not possible some guy making it real because he wants it to be?

Good question . All sorts of people at different times can sense this . Sometimes I will stare intensely and the person will look at me , at other times .... nothing .

I am supposing, since part of consciousness is non-local , that is where we 'connect' .... but something else is going on here ; I am certain, as I have done the experiment so many times , animals can do it too . I live in a bush cabin , sometimes rats or mice get in , as soon as I listen intently to locate their position , they go quiet . I have to 'send my mind somewhere else' think about something different and not focus my directional hearing on them and then they start making noise. moving again.

many animals ( especially humans ;) ) will act different when they see you looking at them ...... but acting different when they 'hear you listening to them ' ? ? ?

Sorry , I haven't been much help in giving you an answer , have I .

In some japanese martial arts schools(might be limited to old koryu and Bujinkan, which is not koryu) there are concepts of Sakki, and Zansen.
Sakki is murderous intent, so when someone has intent to cut my head of with sword, I sense it somehow, even though i dont see it or hear it. I dont really know how this is trained...In Bujinkan, the 5. dan test is sakki-test where the shidan stands behind you and hits you to head(while you are kneeling) with shinai(practise sword). If you dodge this before it hits you you pass the test and get the 5. dan grade. I think Zansen is the skill that makes you aware of this intent that someone is attacking you. It's been long time so I might be mixing things.

One way of expressing it is by facial expression , eg ; at kobudo training in the park , I am facing off against one of the guys, we have bokens , we are taking it in turn to initiate attacks , its his turn . he doesnt attack , me ; 'Attack . ''
Him ; ... nothing . ''Attack ! '' Him ; '' No . '' Whaaaat ??? No ? I never had that before in a sword match ! :D Okay, so I advanced on him . He ran off into the bushes :D - maybe valid for self - defence ... but in a duel !

Later I asked him about it ; '' I could see you were about to do something real nasty to me .'' he was also my boss at work , one time he was worried as due to certain issues he thought he was going to get the sack and had been called into the managers office . I advised him to imagine he was wearing his ( katana ) sword and to 'psychically' do what I had done .

he said he went in and sat down and imagined drawing his sword, cutting the bosses head off and placing it on his desk in front of him :D he said the manager hesitated , stammered and then mate went on a tirade against the boss and threatened to quit .... turns pout he got a raise ! :D

Thats seems correct , it should gauge intent , direction AND target . years back a very competent aikido teacher I had would turn his back to the class , you would approach him and point a finger to back of head , back, lower legs , etc and he could name the target , We did all sorts of things to 'expose' him ... he is seeing shadows , he is hearing the approach , etc we masked all those things , he could still get it . I am sure I must have some ability there ... been riding a morotcycle for 50 years and still alive ! Mostly through 'hunches' .

I asked AI about it and it debunked it . One reason it gave was ; if a person is staring at you from behind , they are masking the background sound behind them and you can unconsciously pick up on the direction ,

:D Me; '' Okay then .... AI ... how is that going to change if the person is facing you or looking the other way ? ''

stupid AI !

Your mice and rat visitors picking up your thought vibrations and going quiet in the Bush cabin made me smile. Ive had the exact sane kind of experience with flies while having my lunch at the park. Naturally when zi bring my food out, so come the flies. At first I just shoo them away. But when they keep coming landing on food, I become irritated and my mind shifts from shooing them away to eliminating them, and as soon I I 'thought' eliminate, they all dissipated quickly at the same time. This has happened countless times. These amazing creatures who are all far more sensitive and aware then us humans are fully locked into psychic mental energies we humans emanate lol....

I'd like to add also, flies and mosquitoes are not the least bit afraid of humans, they are fearless, even when we are wildly driven to eliminate them, they come back to the exact spot you tried to get them, undaunted! They are Fearless I tell you lol

the non-dual stance is that there isn't actually a distinction between the qualia being observed and the awareness of that qualia. some more advanced work along these lines being done by people like the Qualia Research Institute go further to say that the difference in perspective is a result of the topology of this continuous field itself rather than individual dualistic perspectives on it.

so, the answer to why you can sense when someone is staring at you from this lens is that you're literally seeing through their eyes and sensing the slightly unfamiliar topological structure suddenly introduced to your awareness field

Realistically, most of the time it is probably you noticing something in the hazy end of your peripheral vision.

Perhaps this explains how a pesky mosquito can be buzzing around my ankles constantly trying to bite me, but the very moment I bend down to hunt for the fucker he has magically vanished and won't return until it loses my attention again.
I'd also like to add I don't think this (sensing someone watching you) really has anything to do with gaydar. My gaydar sucked in college and I kept hitting on gay chicks. It was mostly a learning experience that my taste in tomboyish women sadly also coincided with the standard culture around lesbians.

Been a long time since I have seen or heard a mention of Rupert Sheldrake!

To answer your question though. I bet it has to do with those ancient, primal, instincts we have. Our brains notice things that we may not be conciously aware of in a certain moment. This is already scientifically proven. So, perhaps, through evolution, we have evolved to single people out in a crowd as well as know they are staring at us from behind. Back in the stone age or whatever, im sure there were less crowds, so we didnt need to. But ill bet now with these cities and such, we have evolved to be able to do this.
