Everywhere I look there's a plethora of posts, books, blogs, videos etc. about how to access paranormal experiences. How to venture into the underworld, how to project into the astral plane, how to hear the spirits, how to manifest a result, etc

But saying you have a full understanding of something implies that you have full control over it

Where is the content about closing the door to the underworld, stopping yourself from being pulled into the astral plane, banishing the spirits, countering a manifestation attempt? To my eye, these subjects appear more needed.

Maybe the reason the occult is kind of a joke is that no one has ever seen an occultist walk up to a schizophrenic homeless person and clear their mind with an incantation.

I know such things exist, or have existed. They don't appear to be very in vogue right now though, and I'm wondering why that is.

I want to be able to heal someone's anxiety in the moment in a noticable way. If an uninitiated person near me notices a strange supernatural occurrence, I want to be able to do something about it. That's what I think of when I think of what an "occult expert" would be, someone in control. Experts on fires mostly put them out and only very rarely start them, and even then it is for an actual reason.

If someone were to say to you, "I curse you", wouldn't you want a way to say, "Nope"?

You can technically become an exorcist just by knowing the bornless rite lol. Idk about curing homeless tweakers, though. That'd be a pretty cool power to have. Just fuckin start cleaning up the town by curing all the crazy bums lmao

I guess it's easier to convince someone you have power to summon things that don't exist than to exert power over things that evidently exist. We unfortunately have to accout for the fact that the bulk of people self-identifying as occultists is made up of quacks and the mentally unwell.

Here's what I think of this, disclaimer for 3 out of 5 level preachiness, sorry. :p

Mastery comes not from the parlor tricks and shiny tchotchkes but from who You are and how you carry Your Self, from Your relationship with God (literally and for lack of a better word), and from Your understanding and ethics.

My recommendations are:
  • Learn hypnosis, and go as far beyond what is taught as you can in furthering your understanding of it...
  • Work at trancework and holding your center...
  • Remember that spirits are your siblings, no matter how much more (seemingly?) powerful...
  • Consider the meaning of the left-, and right hand path, and the fact humans have two hands...
  • Spend some time on considering how you would negate a curse... there is a way to say "nope".

Post automatically merged:

+1 don't neglect your body... personally i'm a huge fan of Wim Hof, but there's a number of ways to train and raise awareness

I don't know why I feel the need to be pedantic here, but this is simply not true. Knowledge and power do not always line up. I could have perfect knowledge of how to build a nuclear reactor, but if I'm stuck in solitary confinement without any tools or materials, I don't have the ability to build anything or control any atomic processes.

Maybe you need this content, in which case you should ask for it. In general though I think most people in our culture suffer more from spiritual disconnection and a sense of oppressive mundanity than they do from hostile spirit contact.

I want to be able to heal someone's anxiety in the moment in a noticable way.

Great. Here are the basic steps: (1) Get and hold their attention for the duration of the process (2) Attune to their energy and engage the specifics on their mentality on the issue at hand. (3) Bring that energy and mentality to peace and resolution in your own being. (4) Communicate somatically and symbolically the specific nature of the resolution as you discover it.

If an uninitiated person near me notices a strange supernatural occurrence, I want to be able to do something about it. That's what I think of when I think of what an "occult expert" would be, someone in control.

There are some parts of life where we can and should be in control (such as when crafting an object). There are other parts where we it is best for us to adopt the attitude of relationship partners. And there are aspects of life that call for humility and acceptance (such as when dealing with beings much wiser or more fundamental than ourselves). A real occult expert should know which is which, and have a decent ability to engage in each mode.

Experts on fires mostly put them out and only very rarely start them, and even then it is for an actual reason.

Sure, but experts in ships usually design, build, and maintain them.

There are certainly times when it is best to just shield, ground, and shut down occult or spiritual phenomena. In general, however, spiritual health, safety, and power is best promoted by invoking and filling your life with a range of positive spiritual allies. Having a healthy dose of Archangel Michael (or some being of that sort) in your aura is going to do more for your ability to work with hostile spirits than any amount of technical mastery. Ultimately we are bit players in this universe. An insistence on an egoic sense of being in control actually leads to weakness.

There's a book called "Fluke" by Brian Klaas where the tagline is "We control nothing. We influence everything." He's basically talking about how humans have scaling behaviours; one person can, theoretically affect the whole world by doing the right thing, at the right time, in the right place.

How you get to be in the right place at the right time to do the right thing - that's the difficult bit!
