[Opinion] - Knot Magic?
I have read a few references to this.(E.g., the Quran's Surah Al-Falaq (113), "I seek refuge from the Lord of the Dawn from the evil...of those who blow upon knots." Commentators take this as a reference to sorcery. The Net yields a lot of hits as to knot magick, but most are on the order of ...wizardforums.com
Plus the books in our Library.
Does anybody have any resources or tips to get into knot magic? I have been called to try somethings regarding knot magic, but I am new to the topic?
Thanks! I don't think I have access yet. I think I need to post more.![]()

I will research this one. Thanks."Quipus and Witches Knots" by Cyrus Day
Thank you! This is kinda what had come to mind. I was on the right path. The simplest variety is to acquire a cord (braiding one yourself is best), consecrate it and then speak your spell as you gather it into a knot. Breath through the gap in the cord as you close the knot. Find a number that fits your working and repeat the spell that many times down the length of the cord, or do variations to shift the scope or intent of the spell.
Thanks so much! I am going to check this out. I think this was what someone was telling me about. The 9 knot spell is the simplest, a search should bring it up. It's literally string, words and visualisation/intent.
It's used for practical results magic.
I'd suggest simply 'doing' it and see how you go.
It's literally as simple as tying a knot.
Thank you! After looking through some resources, the best book I found in the subject is Knot Magic by Tylluan Penry. It goes a little more in depth than some others.
The simplest knot spell is an incantation, uttered "into" the knot while it's being tied, to "seal" the words inside. Now it carries these words, like a petition paper or a "sigilized" incantation in chaos magic. You may tie one rope into some symbolic amount of times, like 7 or 9, 11 or 21, either repeating the same incantation or adding up new ones, "I will be irresistible to women" "Any woman I desire, desires me in return" "If I approach a woman, she will not reject me" "I will not get her pregnant or catch a disease" "These words wont lose power until the rope is burned" "Every time I dip this rope into liquor these words are recharged" "So be it". Just like any form of magic that is so simple, it has many variables that make it very not simple, you may use regular twine, or rope used to hang a murderer (which wasn't so rare back when we were still doing that, recommend finding some contacts in Iran or Japan), you may wear a blessed knot to empower yourself or throw a cursed rope into your enemy's backyard (Mohammad himself was allegedly cursed like that), or tie it onto his poppet, you may whisper a petition into a knot a tie it to an idol."I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak, from the evil of whose who whisper into knots"
Maybe in your culture it is like that, not sure, but in many others knot magic is associated with baneful magic, among other "practical applications". try leaving a regular shoestring tied into a knot at the doorsteps of a superstitious Arab family and see how they'd react, some muslim communities even employ exorcists who's specialty is praying over and untying/cutting/burning those, determing which know is to be cut, which is to be untied, etc.Knot magic is primarily used for protection — protecting ordinary people, especially during wartime. Beyond that, it doesn’t have much practical application. A specific incantation is spoken over each knot.
Some English witches tied up winds in knots, to help sailors on calm days. I think it was common in Cornwall. Also for binding individuals.Knot magic is primarily used for protection — protecting ordinary people, especially during wartime. Beyond that, it doesn’t have much practical application. A specific incantation is spoken over each knot.
I love this!I make candles for spell work. Recently I started making knots in the wick before pouring the molten wax in the mold so the knots are undone by the flame.
Possibly. I can only speak about the use of this type of magical protection from the perspective of Slavic magic. One of the oldest, most common, and yet least talked about (outside of the muslim world, I guess) types of magic, found all over the world, in fact I even remember accidentally coming up with it as a child. Michael Ford wrote a little bit about it in his book on arabic black magic, but Michael Ford is toilet paper, I genuinely can't recall any good books dedicated specifically to knot magic, but there have to be some, especially among books on slavic and arabic folklore.
