Hmm, maybe ask yourself, "when was I last utterly fascinated and preoccupied with something"? Did either that, traumatic experiences and/or life-changing joyful moments, ever make you dream? Or wake you up feeling in a certain "affirming, embracing it" mood? < That may be proof you Do dream.

Maybe you dream so well, that you finish the entire process cycle before waking up, not recalling anything?

Some people only dream in sound. Some only in e-motions... some are just the entire ocean('s motions).

Maybe you subconsciously can't be assed because of your personal biggest thread metaphysically / the highest abstraction of your worldview + your being. Maybe your life is too boring for a certain potential in yourself to wake up and stir you, so you can dream about it. Maybe you process your life quick/efficiently.

Maybe you don't sleep long enough. Try 2-3 nights of sleeping til you wake (wake as in actually ready to get up. If you Can stay in bed and fluff the pillow and snooze off, repeatedly do so til that moment comes). That means sensory deprivation, no phone, no people no bells no whisles no outside sounds.

I know I get fucked up spiritually if I don't get the whole sleep-shebang delivered at least once a week. I stop dreaming and I separate in duality, existentially.

Noone can ever not dream. Some just can't remember it. Perhaps that's the case for you.

Just another perspective. From a psychoanalytic standpoint, a dream is speech that has regressed to figurative thinking. Besides, many of us daydream. In fact, Freud referred to fantasies as daydreams. You can try writing down your recurring fantasies and immediately attempting to interpret them. You can also try what’s known as “active imagination.” For example, before going to sleep, visualize in detail how you’re riding an elevator up or down, or wherever you want to go.
For example, can you imagine going to a place where you’ll find the answer to the question: “Why can’t I remember my dreams?”) It’s probably best to come up with your own scenario for these imaginary journeys.

It's possible that you're overworked, under stress, taking some pills for something, or simply don't remember dreaming, because usually everyone dreams.

It is really bothering me now that I never dream. Regardless of how much or how little sleep I get, it appears I do not dream - OR that I have absolutely no recall of any dreams whatsoever. This has gone on for most of my life. The last time I remember regularly dreaming was back in 2004 when I was trying to give up smoking and was using nicotine patches - wild dreams. Still smoking (8 a day).
So if anyone has any ideas what I can do to get dreaming/dream recall working again I would be very pleased to hear them.

Everybody usually dreams / has dreams. Dreams are, as Jung defined them, the expressions of the subconscious mind, and also, based on Greek esoteric thought, Oneiroi, living entities signifying Dreams. Depending on the type of dreams, there are two main classifications that we can apply to them:

  1. The dreams from the Gate of Horn: Dreams that are made of horn carry with them true, prophetic and meaningful messages sent directly by the Gods.
  2. The dreams from the Gate of Ivory: Dreams that are made from ivory carry deceitful, empty, or false illusions that misled the dreamer. This would would be where most of the junk from the subconscious tends to manifest. Here we may dream of various fucked up things like having really strong arguments, nightmares, straight up fever dreams etc.
It is important to know what those dreams represent to you as normally they are still there? Is it something that your subconscious tries to communicate with you? Or is it something much more deeper, like a message from a Deity / Spirit? Those two questions can help you build a starting point to differentiate between subconscious communication and actual spiritual communication.

Furthermore, is it something that you may not want to remember, relate to trauma and such? Sometimes we may dream and maybe it is something about physical or emotional trauma and it is reasonable for our brains to trigger the survival instinct and not letting us relieve such memories.

For dream recalling I recommend writing a dream journal, saying the known formula of "I remember my dreams when I wake up" (make sure it is in present tense), and also use specific stones and crystals related to dreamworking and dream recalling essentially:

  1. Amethyst - the calm tranquil energy of amethyst helps to release the stress of an overactive mind, eases stress and also protects against nightmares.
  2. Labradorite - One of the best stones to use for transformation and visualization. It enhances your intuition and can help you recall subtle dream details with clarity.
  3. Celestite - Has high vibrational energy linked to the third eye (Ajna chakra). Perfect for promoting deep calm and vivid dream recall.
  4. Rainbow Moonstone - Perfect for easing emotional tension after the day and for enhancing intuition and connection with subconscious communication.
  5. Blue Kyanite - Perfect especially if you seek healing dreams and bridging the gap between dreaming and waking up understanding of what you dreamt of.

It is important that you also take good care of yourself. Consistent rest, reducing blue light from your smartphone or laptop, ensuring the great amount of melatonin by keeping a dimly lit to dark sleeping area are also keep steps to enhance your dreaming abilities.

And, try your best to quit nicotine usage for good. Nicotine is known as a mind stimulant and reduces the time spent in REM (Rapid Eye Movement) state of sleep. Less REM cycles mean the lack of time for dreams to form. Furthermore, it also causes micro-arousals and frequent awakenings during the night, interrupting the natural sleeping stages and continuously blocking the REM state from happening, which is needed for memorable dreams.

Well guys and gals I have tried everything. I can only conclude that as many say, that I do dream but I fail to remember them. I’m guessing I’m being protected from something and if so I will accept that.
If the ability to remember dreams ever returns I will be back to bore you all with fully detailed accounts!

When your dreams said you should quit smoking and you didn't, you said to the Unconscious that you don't value your dreams, so they stopped. You still dream, but as far as your dreaming self knows, you consider them a waste of your time. So, get a notepad and start recording your dreams, even if they're fragments or impressions. This may sound silly, but you have to set up some "affirmations" that say you are willing to listen to what your dreams want to tell you and that you want to remember and understand them. You have to be interested in your dreams, so take the time to read books on dreams and their symbolism, and then say, " I will listen to my dreams, I will remember them, and I will listen to what they say". You still dream, but you've blocked them by your attitude towards them. If your dreams aren't important to you, or you fear what they say to you, then you won't remember them, unless it's a dire emergency that will make you listen - they're called nightmares.
