Yeah no hate to people who use Rider? Waite or the Rider Waite itself. I don't think its inherently bad. I'm glad others get along with it. I just. I need to argue right now.

I haven't complained or argued with something for a bit and I grew up debating. I was forced to not for a bit just because where I was at and how it conditioned me to not stick up for myself.

Its actually very freeing to. Freeing to complain. I like all the interesting art work made for other tarot decks but also have to acknowledge how classic Rider Waite is classic.

But I actually got a different tarot deck to start out with.

Instead of Page it was Princess and instead of Knight it was Prince. And it had pentacles instead of coins. Instead of cups it had hearts. But it was also kind of old looking. It must have been a different variant which I thought was cool

It was so weird to see people talk about pages when I first started looking up what the deck meant instead of consulting the book. Because I thought the Page was a Princess and Knight a Prince.

It was very different from the classic to start out with. It was also weird to hear cups being mentioned because I thought it was hearts. Pentacles and Coins kind of interchange with a deck I think but those ones were unique to that deck.

A tarot you have to color yourself! that's actually pretty clever idea.

Its a great idea and good training if you are going to get into temple art , making banners, 'altar front' magick square sigils , paint Enochian tablets ( another great exercise ) , color schemes for specific planets . . . all in a 'correspondence system ' .

I have been a Thother for near 50 years now , with many years as a reader at the local markets.

I also came across this one which I like ..... but there is a big mystery about it ....

Where are the missing cards ! ... and what is with the extra ones ?

... I looked it up

Q . why no 2 - 6 suit cards ?

is a standard 32-card pack that removes all values from 2 to 6. This format has been used for centuries in Europe for both games and divination.

The owls play some part in replacing them as some type of regulators.

I think it's actually interesting topic, when I noticed it in suggestions so why not? What is your favorite tarot deck? (or the most used one)

I have quite a collection of decks, so I have multiple favorites, how I use them I keep to myself, but these are in my specials:

World of Warcraft Deck
This one has kinda shallow symbolism in cards, but is still nice done and is interesting to work with. After spending years playing WoW I can't deny finding this one pretty... familiar. Author is not deep into knowledge of cards, but was doing his job mindfully.

Tarot of Vampyres (Phantasmagoria)
Vamps, of course. Also has quite cool guidebook that has planetary and kabbalah decryptions for each card. Can be quite useful.

The Serpent Icons
It's Mayor arcana only deck, that comes with awesome book. Handy drawn (big respect!) and made for occult purposes by occultist, which really shows in this one. I admire provocative art as well as nice done book.

Arcana of Ice and Fire
This deck was made by occultist, although it has two deep downsides: one by being done with Ai and the other is quite high price. I find it interesting that Hanged man is renamed to Sacrifice. The deck is beautiful (ugly hardly exists in Ai graphic) and cannot deny that the artist creator was making it for occult practice.

Tarot of dragons (Shawn MacKenzie)
Not that special, but the art is stunning.
I have explored various decks. The deck that stands out is hp lovecraft deck. Its minor arcana suits are different from others.

I like the CBD Tarot. It's simple, clear, nice to look at and the author's book is excellent. And the images are free on the creator's website.

I have this deck, the Conver-Ben-Dov (CBD), and it's a good reproduction of the "standard" Tarot de Marseille (TdM). Of course, there were many variations produced over the centuries depending on the region of Europe where the decks were printed. Yoav Ben Dov intended to utilize the most common variant in as neutral a way as possible while attempting to restore the lines and colors that are faded on surviving samples from centuries ago. The TdM evolved in an organic fashion, whereas most popular divination decks today represent modern, more individualistic, and sometimes ideological, concepts of the occult and divination that surfaced since the magical revival of the 19th Century.

I have kept this particular deck in nearly pristine condition partly due to the fact that the card stock doesn't feel as good when shuffling as a couple of other decks I own. I also simply want to preserve the deck by avoiding too much handling. So, I have another TdM which is a reprint (of a reprint?) from c. 1930, made on larger card stock which is a pleasure to shuffle.

I have the book. It is simple and direct, using a psychological model for interpretation. It was never intended for occult study. Of all the books on the Tarot that I have read, I like The Devil's Picture Book by Paul Huson, which explains the meanings of the cards in the TdM and would make a nice companion guide for the CBD deck in my opinion.

Thank you for the recommendation, I was looking for more books on the TdM.

I think this is why I couldn't get into the tarot when I was trying out RWS and Thoth variants. It feels like the symbolism was tacked onto the cards at some point and it just made things very messy for me.
